We’re grateful for all you do to assist me and my husband with coming to grips with the tough

disease of Alzheimer’s. Your advice and caring nature are exactly what we need, and your presence in our family has made a huge difference in such a short period of time! Thanks for everything!

Care Giver

Problem section

After a dementia diagnosis, many partners believe the best care for their loved one is at home, to keep living at home, with them, in familiar surroundings with less disruption of routines.

In the beginning of the disease its often enough with the love and care from the partner, friends and famlily, and occational visit to the doctor. This to keep confusion low for the one sufferering and prolongs their ability to stay at home. As the dementia progresses and the effect starts to show it will lead to care related challenges, and the partner or family members generally assume the roll of caregiver.

However, given the progressive nature of most dementia diseases, the increasing efforts required of the non-proffessional caregiver begin to take a toll on the everyday family and worklife and health, both physical and emotional. Subsequently, families and loved ones with the best intentions eventually go down with stress and "burnout".

Sleep depravation, headaches, poor diet, fatigue, changes in blood pressure to mention some.

Neglecting other responsibilities, feeling inadequate, and resenting demands placed on your time, frustration, are some typical feelings experienced as well.

As the day-to-day demands increase as the illness progresses, you may seek respite care, but no one seems to understand the specialized needs of your loved one, that there is no One sze fits all". Looking for professional dementia care providers with proper knowledge, education and experience is often challenging and also frustrating.

A dementia coach can help to improve the quality of life of the person living with dementia, as well as their care partners through rendering emotional, social and practical support along the way.

As a dementia nurse I perform a wide variety of services including, but not limited to:

  • Educating families about the disease, and how to prepare for the future

  • Creating successful strategies to minimize problematic behavioral symptoms

  • Navigating the grief and loss that comes from caring for someone with dementia

  • Increasing caregiver support and confidence through education and training

  • Developing solutions that will reduce stress for both the caregiver and the person living with dementia

  • Facilitating positive change through honest feedback, clarity, and compassionate guidance.
